How are women set up to fail?

May 07, 2025

I used to be super stressed at work - on edge, wired, tired and tense.

I wanted to succeed, and to help those around me succeed.

So I put a lot of pressure on myself.

I worked hard.

I mentored others.

I always looked for where sales, systems, processes could improve.

I DID WELL. I WAS SUCCESSFUL.

The challenge I kept running into, what held me back from succeeding further - was my health.

It felt like my body couldn’t keep up.

I found it hard to focus because my mind was overrun with so many things.

I was exhausted all the time - so I kept my body running on coffee and sugar.

I always had tension and pain in my shoulders and back.

I was unwell, had headaches or in pain - more often than I would like to admit.

So, unsurprisingly, I burnt myself out.

Badly.

On more than one occasion. In more than one job.

It was like I couldn’t learn my lesson.

Then I started studying health sciences

DESPERATELY SEARCHING FOR ANSWERS.

What was wrong with me?

Why didn’t other people around me have the same issues?

It took me way too long to figure out what the problem was.

All those other people, the ones that were totally fine, who were easily succeeding in every environment that had burnt me out… were men.

That might make you uncomfortable.

But before you stop reading, let me say this:

WOMEN ARE NOT SMALL MEN.

We have a different biology and physiology.

And the workplace - was literally designed for men, by men.

Since the time of the working office began, everything has been carefully curated to meet all their needs.

From the office temperature, to the working hours, to the office equipment, to the uniforms, to the technology.

Women had to fight to have the right to work. And once we were in, we had to fit inside the box.

You now need to operate like a man. You have to show up every day, with the same amount of energy, the same amount of focus, the same drive - every single day. 9-5pm. 5 days a week.

BUT OUR BODIES DON'T OPERATE LIKE THAT

We have a completely different set of biological factors that determine how well we can think, focus and function.

So to keep up, we often end up drinking excessive amounts of coffee, rush through our meals, don't take enough breaks, don't get enough sleep, work over time and that is just the tip of the iceberg.

But all of these very common habits, don't set us up to succeed, they set us up to fail.

These habits throw us off balance, off centre, out of equilibrium.

These habits keep us stuck in a cycle of stress, so at some point we crash and burn.

So what can we do?

Surely I'm not suggesting that women leave the workforce altogether... no, of course not.

There is actually a fairly simple solution.

To help women succeed in the workplace.

To help women find balance so they can think, feel and be well.

WHAT IS THE SOLUTION?

We need to help them break the cycle of stress.

Which is actually very easy to do...when you know how.

It's actually as simple as making a few small changes in your day.

Changes that reduce stress and bring your body back to balance, naturally.

Changes that set you up to succeed, even when you're living in a world that wasn't designed for you.

BECAUSE WHEN WE DO THIS

When we use simple tools to break up the day, we give our bodies the reset it needs to function well.
