How did changing my habits, change me?

Mar 07, 2025

Overeating eating. Binge drinking. Doom scrolling

Smoking. Over exercising. Not sleeping

Excess caffeine. Binging TV shows

These are just a few habits that helped me cope with being constantly stressed and anxious.

The problem is none of these habits are beneficial to the mind or body.

They actually cause us more harm.

HOW SO?

Each of these harmful habits turn the stress system on - in one way or another - and were throwing me further out of balance.

Making me feel more tired, more unwell, more wired and wrecked.

For example:

I used to be stressed all the time, so I rarely had the energy (or mental capacity) to decide what to eat and then go home and cook it.

So I would order take out.

I’d get chicken nuggets and chips and a fizzy drink to wash it all down.

The thing is after I finished eating, I would always feel lethargic, uncomfortably full and kinda sick.

I would crawl into a ball on the couch, binge shows and not move until bed time.

I DIDNT REALISE

I had no idea that eating junk food was wreaking havoc on my system.

Might sound silly to you, but I was none the wiser.

I didn’t know that junk food messes with production of our feel good hormone (serotonin)....which we need to, well, feel good.

I didn’t know that junk food caused my glucose levels to spike and then crash stressing my nervous system out even more.

I didn’t know that junk food would mess with my sleep, which you may have guessed, means more stress and anxiety the next day.

I HAD SO MANY

My life was full of habits like this.

So many harmful habits that were causing me more unnecessary stress and anxiety.

From drinking coffee before breakfast to exercising too much at the wrong time of my cycle.

I had to re-learn the basics.

Reset my habits so I could feel good, sleep well, had more energy and better health.

Overhaul my lifestyle so everything I did each day, from what I ate to how I moved my body, helped me stay grounded, balanced and calm.

WHAT HAPPENED

It took a lot of time, money and energy to figure out how to do this because I couldn't find anything that spoke to all pillars of health specifically for women (thanks to the male bias, more on this here).

But once I did - game changer.

Almost all my symptoms disappeared over the course of a few months.

I felt so much calmer, so much more at ease.

It was the first time I ever felt like I could fully chill out, relax.

Every part of my life improved - my overall wellbeing, my sleep, my hair, skin and nails - everything.
